Emergencies / Walk-In Visits

We unfortunately do not offer drop-in or walk-in hours, except for true emergencies. The Osgoode Village Family Health Organization is not a hospital emergency facility and therefore suspected heart attacks, strokes or life-threatening emergencies should be dealt with by calling 911 or going directly to a hospital to save emergency time. Obvious broken limbs should also go directly to a emergency room at a hospital of your choice.

The best and only acceptable way to assess a medical concern is through direct contact with your physician. Our office staff is not permitted to diagnose or give advice over the phone or internet. You will always be encouraged to see your doctor when an issue arises. Please make an appointment when you wish to discuss a medical problem or an issue surrounding a problem. There are few situations where a doctor will be able to respond to telephone inquiries. In situations where you are unsure of what to do, please feel free to call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.(Link for Telehealth:

It is important to be aware that email correspondence is not a secure method of communication and as such the sending of medically sensitive information is not allowed. Please speak with front reception prior to sending emails to the clinic.

Leaving Phone Messages

Please note that our phone lines can be extremely busy, especially first thing in the morning. Phone messages may be left 24 hours a day. When leaving a message clearly state your name, phone number, and a brief reason for your call. We thank you for your patience and assure you messages are checked regularly during office hours. Please be aware that messages are not checked after hours or on weekends. We will return your call as promptly as possible or on the next business day.

Booking and Cancelling Appointments

Our practice strives to book appointments appropriately so that you can be seen on time. To keep our schedule on time, it is of utmost importance when booking an appointment to let our staff know briefly the nature of your problem (and how many family members need to be seen). The staff can then book the appropriate amount of time you will require. For counselling and emotional stress issues, please inform our staff that you may require a longer appointment. Please understand that unfortunately in medicine there are emergencies that may occur which will take precedence over scheduled appointments. We appreciate your patience with delays during those times. Let our office staff know by phone or answering machine when you cannot keep an appointment. Missed appointments prevent someone else from being seen. All missed appointments are subject to a fee based on the length and the type of the missed appointment.

House Calls and Palliative Care

Our family health physicians will do palliative care as well as house calls for those patients who require these services. Please speak with your family doctor if you are in need of this service.

When necessary, consultations can be arranged with specialists throughout the Ottawa and surrounding areas. The Ontario Ministry of Health (OHIP) requires that a patient be seen by their primary care physician (your family doctor) prior to any referral.

Prescription Renewal Policy

As of January 1, 2015 the Osgoode Village Family Health Organization (OVFHO) will not be accepting phone/fax prescription renewals. Patients are therefore strongly encouraged to see their physician for refills.

Physicians of the Osgoode Village FHO strongly believe that it is important to be assessed in person, periodically to ensure that your medication are working as they should and that any monitoring (blood test, etc) that may be required is completed.

Our staff will do their very best to ensure patients are provided with appointments that are timely to ensure that patients are able to see their family doctor before their medication runs out. Patients are responsible for ensuring that they make an appointment prior to running out of their medication. Please note that your pharmacy may be able to ensure you don’t run out of essential prescriptions while waiting to get an appointment.
